First post here too, hope its a good one.

So theoretically its possible to reprogram a es2 circuit board from a bird scooter that doesnt have the GPS Box (Bird Brain)? Because i came across a handle bar set with one... To view images REGISTER or LOGIN for full access.

Is there a way to tell the difference between es2 and es4 at a glance?
And is there any benefit to the newer model?
Other then the handlebars being slightly different, (ES2's feel more plastic and no QR badge on the left like the ES4) There is a sticker on the bottom that usually tells what model it is- but chances are its usually gone or ripped. From what i can tell and what Ninebot's site says, the ES4 is just a ES2 with a extended battery included so it has a higher top speed (18.6mph) and longer range (28 miles).

The ex. battery in question looks like this but with rubber guards on the side.

From what i can assume, people must snatch these off of Bird Scooters quite easily cause all the ES4's i've seen have the port where its supposed to be- wide open.

Harbor Freight sells an entire 100 pc security bit set for $9 with everything you'll ever need to crack open any scooter
+2 to the Harbor Freight kit since it has a head which allows you to use bits on ratchets and cause its bang for the buck.

@humanbeing21 Hmmm that's interesting that the Segway controller may be the component keeping the scoot linked to Bird however, minimally I assume like having the VIN number to an engine. Initially I thought the brain is what kept them online/offline until I came across an ES2 without a brain, only dash so then I question how those particular Birds operate. Could it be that they are simply offline(no GPS) but hardware locked until you scan the qrcode on the scoot using bird's app, & somehow their server's sends an unlock code to your phone & relays it to the scooter via Bluetooth to unlock it & additionally using your phone's location to place it on the app?

I spoke with someone else who successfully did an ES2 dash & controller swap. They also mentioned about the odd symptoms when the headlight is turned on which led them to do the controller swap & they confirmed that the scoot did originally have a brain removed. @humanbeing21 you mentioned in another post about getting instructions from a supplier on changing s/n on a swapped out new controller which is exactly what they did to get their's to fully work. According to this individual, the dashboard alone was able to get the scooter functional offline albeit w/ speed limited, headlight issues, & possible issues connecting to Segway/Mi home apps. This was all fixed once they swapped controllers and S/Ns so this may substantiate your claim that leaving the original controller might be the limiting factor for top speed, updating firmware along other things.

I can confirm ES2 & ES4 chassis are identical including the hub motor & internal battery. ES4 differentiate by having the external battery & LED ground effects lights installed beneath the chassis. The controller might be updated too but not sure.

precisely as you stated

Bluetooth models use QR codes and ID’s just like brained birds.
Once captured, all Bluetooth birds should automatically lock after 15 seconds.
The QR code is above the LCD screen on ESB model Bluetooth scooters.

Segway's App

The app isn't required to use this scooter. If you do not connect the scooter to your phone it will remain unlocked and you'll be able to ride it without issue.

Download the app: Some cool features found in the app.

The app has a section to change the light pattern.

@humanbeing21 Hey .. are you using the iPhone version of the app ? I have a ES4 (I believe?) that has the lights on the bottom.. but the Ninebot App doesnt give me any options to change them.. There is a firmware update that it wants to do but I'm scared to do it because I believe it will end up speed-limiting the scooter like it did my other one. The other one is now limited to 12\13 MPH with no way to increase the max speed. Speed limiting in the app is set to 9.3MPH so I know that isnt the culprit.

Just curious what you did to change the lights.

Thanks!

I have a Bird ES4 scooter (per the label on the bottom, but there are no undercarriage track lights, so who knows!? Maybe it's an ES2). I removed the Bird GPS unit and replaced the Bird dash with a replacement dash (link at bottom) - I did not reconnect the headlight (do I need to reconnect the headlight at all or can I leave it unplugged?). The top 3 lights on the dash turn on (white) and the 4th light turns on as green (which I read indicates ECO mode). Most of the scooter apps connect to the scooter, but display no data (no serial numbers, no version/firmware info, no battery info). Hitting the throttle does nothing - I haven't reconnected all of the parts to make it a physically rideable scooter yet but tried pushing off manually and hitting throttle, but still nothing. Brake lights do not come on at any point. Any ideas?

Was this literally plug and play? So odd.. so they are unable to track after removing the top bit?

In my city they are getting sold by police after impounded and I'm afraid they will come take it back if it's still trackable after I purchase it

Here is video of control board:

-----》streamable.com/s/43ym0 《-----
Write https:// before adress.
It became like this after I disconnected the battery from board and reconnected.

At first only the red light was lid.
The charging was working.

After disconnecting battery and reconnecting. The red light is still lid up. But now the green light is flashing 7 times before board shuts off automatic.
And now the charging don't work anymore. When connecting the charger lights red 1 sec. Then green 2 sec. And repeating. The board won't let the charger access and charge battery.

It is not broken board. Because I have one more and it happened same thing exactly.

Maybe it needs flashing firmware or something. Any ideas?
