Lime sent the email below to me recently. In it they introduce a new policy suspending Juicers from charging any Ninebot battery. Apparently they have been known to catch fire!
It's nice to see Lime get in front of this but doesn't Bird have the same scooters in there fleet? Why haven't we heard anything from them?
If you wind up charging a Bird Segway Ninebot scooter in your house make sure to keep an eye on it.

Juicer Community,
Whether it’s collecting the scooters on the street or taking the scooters to charge in your own home, your safety is incredibly important to us.
We also believe it’s our obligation to consistently be transparent, as has been our core value since day one, which is why we’re making all of you aware of a potential issue that has developed in a very small percentage of our scooter fleet, and what we’re doing to fix it.
In August of this year we learned of a potential issue with some Segway Ninebot scooter batteries, a manufacturing defect that resulted in several isolated instances of battery smoldering. Although it only affected less than 0.01% of all Harvests, we took this issue very seriously.
Immediately upon learning of the defect, we worked with Segway Ninebot to create a software program to detect potentially affected batteries. As soon as the algorithm identified an issue, these scooters were ineligible to be Harvested by Juicers or for riders to take trips. This measure was successful at preventing incidents until recently when we received an unconfirmed report that another Segway Ninebot scooter model may also be vulnerable to battery failure. Rather than wait for more information, we are taking immediate steps to fix the situation and have outlined our complete efforts on our blog here.
In addition to these previously installed precautions, and because safety is our number one priority, we are immediately suspending Juicers from charging any Ninebot battery until we learn more about recent claims made about Segway Ninebot batteries.
Effective immediately, all Segway Ninebot scooters will now only be charged at Lime’s scooter storage facilities and charging at homes will be temporarily suspended.
We are so grateful for your support and care deeply about your safety. If you have questions or concerns about safety at Lime, please do not hesitate to contact us by clicking here and writing “safety” in the subject line.
Sincerely,
The Lime Juicer Team
