An Atlanta police officer ran a stop sign, hitting and killing a man riding a motorized scooter, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

About 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, GSP troopers were called to the intersection of Newcastle Street and Washington Place about the fatal collision, Franka Young said in an emailed statement.

According to officials, Atlanta police Officer Ryan Chandler, 24, ran a stop sign and was not using emergency lights at the time of the crash. The man on the scooter was taken Grady Memorial Hospital, where he died. His name has not been released.

Chandler was uninjured, but taken to the hospital as well, Young said.

No charges have been filed in the case. The GSP is conducting a follow-up investigation in conjunction with Atlanta police.

No other details were released.
